Luxury Stay: White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa, Zanzibar

We had already been in Zanzibar for almost a week, during which we were staying in Matemwe Area. This was our first time on spice island and we were curious to see as much as possible. So eager to explore it, that by day four we had already visited most of the MUST SEE places. We were now ready to spend the remainder of our holiday at a place where we could switch off and unwind.

Upon arriving at White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa I knew right away that this was going to be an experience to remember. We were going to spend our last 3 days there and I was over the moon excited when our butler led the way to our luxurious beachfront villa. As he opened the gate and showed us around, it was love at first sight!

WHITE SAND LUXURY VILLAS & SPA

White Sand Villas sits on 4 hectares of land and has 11 luxury villas and 3 standard rooms. The luxury villas are located at a prime location in Zanzibar at one of the most renowned beaches.

Set amidst lush vegetation with baobab, coconut, and plumeria trees, as well as beautiful exotic flowers, I felt as if I had stepped into an oasis. I decided to explore the surroundings by bicycle – provided complimentary by the hotel – in an attempt to fool myself that I had done some sort of exercise. That was until dinner was served, by which time I had forgotten all about burning calories and my new focus was to indulge in the local cuisine.

BEACHFRONT VILLA AT WHITE SAND LUXURY VILLAS

Our villa was located on the beachfront with a private entrance to the beach and a breathtaking view over the Indian Ocean. It was made up of two buildings, the living room with a small kitchenette and the main building, where our bedroom and bathroom were located. The buildings were connected by a sundeck (as if I needed an excuse to walk barefoot) and in the middle was my favorite spot, our private pool!

Just when I thought that nothing can top that up, we were led to our terrace located above our bedroom. Later, the terrace turned out to be the perfect spot to watch the sunset while I was sipping Spicy Passion Gin Tonic, one of their signature cocktails.

THE FOOD AT WHITE SAND VILLAS

We chose to have dinner served in our room and Thomas, our butler made sure that everything was perfect. With unparalleled attention to detail, he creates the perfect romantic ambiance. From bringing fresh flowers to set up on our table, to arranging candles. Our every need was anticipated. The food was so delicious that ignited a conversation with Thomas on the local dishes, the spices, and the ingredients they use. He informed us that the hotel is very conscious of the environment. They are in fact using the hotel grounds to grow their herbs, vegetables, and fruits (part of the reason I’m sure why my salad tasted as fresh as it gets).

We were on a half-board basis, with delicious freshly cooked breakfast and dinner including. The options for the breakfast were nothing but short, including eggs; fruits, bread basket, and pretty much anything our heart desired as far as breakfasts go. The dinner menu was also set, including starter, main, and dessert and it was changing daily. The starter and main courses were a mixture of international and local cuisine with fish and seafood taking the lead.

DAY OF FUN AT WHITE SAND VILLAS & SPA

As gorgeous and luxurious as our villa was, Zanzibar is primarily known for its beaches. So, on our second day, we decided to venture out of its limits and take a walk on the beach. Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen to date! That coming from someone who grew up in Greece says a lot. The sand was white and fine like powder and the sea had the most exquisite turquoise color.

The water was so inviting that I decided to try for the first time paddleboarding. Luckily, the hotels’ watersport center offers unlimited rental of paddleboards and kayaks. My attempt sadly did not last long, seeing that I have two left feet and I kept falling off. After I drunk way too much seawater, I thought it was best I gave up. If more intense sports are what you’re after, then you’re at the right place. The hotel has its own high-end kitesurfing school where their expert staff will take care of the lessons and the equipment rental. All you have to do is ask them!

NOTE: Lessons and rentals are available between June 15th and September 15th and December 15th to March 15th, yearly. Be sure also to pre-book so that you secure your slot.

Why not complete your luxury escapade by indulging in a relaxing massage or a facial? All products used are organic and locally sourced based on seaweed, coconut, and various spices found in Zanzibar. For a complete spa experience, there is also a steam room and a sauna located in the spa area. The open-air spa is definitely one of the highlights not to be missed!
