2. Restaurant La Lomita

This little gem of a restaurant is a hole in the wall but serves the most delicious mole we’ve ever tried. The facade of the restaurant is painted in flower murals and it is one of the cutest spots on the island. It is located a little far off the Isla Mujeres downtown but it is well worth the walk because this is one of the best cheap places to eat in Isla Mujeres. La Lomita is recommended by locals and expats alike so we couldn’t pass on the opportunity to dine here. Be sure to order the mole and the chili rellenos.

Tonicho’s Taqueria at first sight is your typical Mexican restaurant but give it a chance you’re guaranteed to be going back for more. The restaurant is located far off Isla Mujeres downtown (roughly an hour on foot) but if you’re renting a golf cart, then do not hesitate to try it out. It serves amazing Mexican food at cheap prices and the service is wonderful. The tacos al pastor are superb and a must-try!

4. Ruben’s Restaurant

If you’re looking for a power breakfast to set the mood right for the day, then look no further than Ruben’s restaurant. 5. Los Tacos de Humo

We saved the best for last, as this was our favorite spot on the island for tacos. As much as we liked the restaurants mentioned above, Los Tacos de Humo was the only one that we ate more than once. I absolutely LOVED their taco, especially the fish one. Whatever we tried here was mouth-watering and I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. Los Tacos de Humo is located in Isla Mujeres downtown and the restaurant is very small. You will most likely have to queue if you go during the peak hours but I guarantee you it’ll be worth the wait.
