If you’re wondering what to do in Pioneertown, then we’ve got you covered. This unique town in California is located only 2 hours from Los Angeles, making it the perfect weekend getaway. Most people combine Pioneertown with a visit to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree but we think that this beautiful place deserves your full attention for a whole day and not just a few hours.
Historic Pioneertown was built back in 1946, to resemble an 1870s town. The vision was to build a movie set where the actors and everyone involved in the production could actually live in. As you walk in Pioneertown, it feels as if time has stood still. The town has managed to this day, to maintain its charm. The buildings found in the historic Pioneertown are in great condition and although most of the establishments are not functioning, they’re totally worth a visit and they’re a great photo op.
In this guide, we will go through what to do in Pioneertown and we’ll also introduce you to unique experiences to not miss out on.

WHERE TO STAY IN PIONEERTOWN
THE OUTLAW
A visit to Pioneertown is a unique experience in itself but if you’re wondering what to do in Pioneertown and where to stay, then look no further than The Outlaw. This unique property is located on the outskirts of Pioneertown. The estate is a combination of an 1880s Western movie set and a traditional ranch-style home, with an eclectic design. The property is quite large, perfect if you’re visiting with a group of friends but also great if you’re looking to indulge in a secluded retreat with your other half.
The Outlaw may not be exactly what you’d call a budget accommodation but the hefty price tag is justifiable. How? The estate offers 4 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and your very own Western town, with your own saloon and a caboose. Yes, you read that right! Last but certainly not least, the rental includes private use of the saloon located on the property. You’ll have, however, to bring your own booze.
