BEST THINGS TO DO IN DUBROVNIK

VISIT THE OLD TOWN OF DUBROVNIK

The Old Town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its beguiling beauty will steal your heart in an instant. It is home to many historical attractions, such as the City Walls and Fort Lovrijenac; one of the most awe-inspiring attractions in Dubrovnik. All the buildings in the Old Town are well-preserved and as you walk through the city walls, you automatically feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. No wonder Dubrovnik has been voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world!

Fort Lovrijenac is opening at 8 am, whereas the closing times depend on the time of the year. A fantastic (and cheap) way to see the main attractions in Dubrovnik is by purchasing a Dubrovnik Card. There are 3 cards you can choose from and they allow access to top attractions in Dubrovnik, museums, and historical monuments. It is a great value for money!

TAKE A WALK OR BIKE ALONG THE COAST

The coastline of Dubrovnik is absolutely stunning and one of the best ways to see it is by taking a walk or bike ride along it. You will be able to see some of the most beautiful views in the world. Some of the best things in life are for free and we truly believe that there is no better way to explore a city other than by simply taking a casual stroll, enjoying the beautiful architecture, and in Dubrovnik’s case, taking in the sensational sea views.

If you’re looking for outdoor activities in Dubrovnik then we strongly recommend that you rent a bike and take the scenic route along the coast. So much fun!

VISIT A BEACH

Croatia has some of the best beaches in Europe so if you’re wondering “is Dubrovnik good for beaches?”, then you’re in for a treat. As you explore the Dubrovnik coastline you’ll come across secluded small coves and rugged pebble beaches, perfect to lay your towel and enjoy swimming in the striking waters of the Adriatic sea. Most of the swimming spots are free and not organized with sunbeds. There are also others, like the popular Banje Beach, which offers the full experience, with comfortable sun loungers, umbrellas, and a beach bar where you can spoil yourself with cocktails.

Some of the best beaches in Dubrovnik are the following:

  • Banje Beach
  • Copacabana
  • Danče Beach
  • Uvala Lapad Beach
  • Dubrovnik City Beach (in case you want to stay within the City Walls)

Although Dubrovnik lacks sandy beaches, we guarantee you that the ones that you will find here are undoubtedly worthy of your time. Visiting a beach is one of the things that you should not miss during your visit to Dubrovnik.

GO ON A HIKE

If you want to explore the surrounding area of Dubrovnik, then go on a hike! There are plenty of great hiking trails located close by. What we loved the most about this outdoor activity in Dubrovnik, is that we were rewarded with epic views. One of the best hikes in Dubrovnik and an absolute must-do is Mount Srd. Wear your comfortable shoes and head over to Jadranska Cesta Street where the trail starts and get ready to be rewarded with some of the most wonderful views over the city and the Adriatic Sea! Even if you are a beginner hiker, there’s no doubt that this is one of the best things to do in Dubrovnik. Avoid the hike between 11 am and 4 pm, especially during the summer months as it gets exceptionally hot. Instead, try going after sunrise or right before sunset.

If you’re looking to attend an event, be sure to book your ticket in advance and reserve your spot. There are so many popular ones that you’re guaranteed to find one that strikes your fancy! Some examples include Summer Festival and Film festival which happens from mid-July until mid-August; It’s really fascinating stuff!
