ST PETER’S POOL MALTA: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ST. PETER’S POOL BEACH
WHY IS IT CALLED ST. PETERS POOL?
It is called St Peter’s pool because of its unique shape, which resembles a swimming pool. St Peter’s pool is surrounded by a rugged, almost moon-like landscape. Flat, limestone rocks dominate the bay, which extends on both sides. The water here is crystal clear, so much so, that you can see the bottom of the sea; much like a swimming pool. It’s not very often that you can see a beach in the form of a natural swimming pool!
HOW TO GET TO ST PETER’S POOL MALTA
St Peter’s pool is located in the south of Malta, a short distance from Marsaxlokk village. Just follow the signs to Marsaxlokk. As you enter the village, take a turn left and from there, there’s sufficient signage to guide you to St Peter’s Pool. The best way to see St Peter’s pool (and the entire island), is by car. It is the most comfortable way and cheap too. The way to get to St Peter’s pool can get a bit rough and gravel, nothing extreme though. As you get closer, there are a few parts where the road gets very narrow and often you have to manoeuvre if there’s another car coming from the opposite side. With that said, it’s absolutely doable and 100% worth the effort.
There is a large parking lot at the top of the cliff and it’s free to the public. During the weekend, it can get very crowded, so be sure to avoid the hours between noon and 16:00.
You can also reach it by bus or on foot from Marsaxlokk village. However, we don’t usually recommend this because it involves a lot of walking. What’s more, there is no sidewalk for pedestrians and no natural shade at any part of the way there.

ARE THERE ANY FACILITIES AT ST PETER’S POOL?
Due to its remote location, there aren’t many facilities at St. Peter’s Pool. Up until recently, there wasn’t even a place to buy water. However, during our recent visit, we discovered a small kiosk at the top, next to the parking lot. There, you can find beverages and snacks but make sure to have cash with you.
Are there any toilets in St Peter’s pool? As far as facilities go, the kiosk is the only facility at St.peter’s pool. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas and no toilets available in the area.

CAN YOU SWIM IN ST PETER’S POOL?
St Peter’s pool has some of the clearest waters in the Maltese islands. So the answer to your question “can you swim in St Peter’s pool?” is most certainly YES!
Although this is a cliffy beach, you need not worry, as there are ladders on several points which you can use to enter the water.
If you’re not afraid of heights, then perhaps you can try jumping off the cliff. After all, this is one of the reasons why St Peter’s pool is famous. Another reason why it’s one of the most famous beaches in Malta is because of its crystalline sea.
HOW HIGH IS ST PETER’S POOL?
One of the most fun things that visitors can do at St Peter’s pool is jump off the cliff. It is not too high, so those who’ve never tried it before can easily try it for the first time. It’s not too low either, so the adrenaline junkies can show off their jumping skills. St Peter’s pool is an estimated 6m high.
HOW DEEP IS ST PETER’S POOL?
No one knows with precision how deep St Peter’s pool is but it’s deep enough to make it perfect for a cliff jump.
The bottom is uneven with rocks so if you’re not a confident swimmer, we wouldn’t recommend this place for swimming.
IS ST PETER’S POOL WORTH VISITING?
Absolutely! It’s the perfect beach to spend a few hours having fun swimming in its emerald waters, cliff jumping or simply sunbathing. It is a great spot all year round really, not just during the summer. We visited St Peter’s pool during the low season simply to enjoy a relaxing picnic and take in the views. No matter the season, St Peter’s pool it’s an unmissable place to see during your visit to Malta.
