For day trips to other towns in Puglia, like Polignano a Mare or Alberobello, the train system is efficient and easy to use. That said, renting a car from the airport gives you the most flexibility, especially if you want to explore smaller towns and beaches. Just note that parking near the old town can be tricky in summer, and paid lots and street spots fill up quickly.
