Feeling like you need a vacation but there are external factors that limit you? There are times in our lives when we feel strongly like escaping the reality and the routine, and what a better way to do that than traveling? For us who have itchy feet and cannot wait to explore the next best destination, being homebound can be quite dreadful.
Here are a few things you can do without getting out of the house, to satisfy your wander-thirst.
COOK A DISH FROM YOUR FAVOURITE CUISINE
Food can always bring back memories. From each country that we visit, there is always that one (in most cases more than one) dish that makes us salivate every time we think about it. Why not try to recreate that dish?

CREATE YOUR FAVOURITE TRAVEL PLAYLIST
When we were planning our West Coast United States road trip, I had created a playlist with some of my favourite songs. Every time I listen to any of these songs, I feel like I’m reliving moments from that trip.

LEARN A NEW SKILL
Visiting France and you got lost? How easier would it be if you could speak French and ask the locals for directions? How about ordering a pizza in Italian the next time you visit Italy? Perhaps, you always liked photography but you never had time to perfect your skills?
Nowadays, we are lucky to have websites which offer an array of online courses. So if you have free time, why not try to learn a new skill?
Here are some websites to get you started:
READ AN INSPIRATIONAL TRAVEL BOOK
A good book and a hot cup of coffee are all you need some times. Explore new worlds through the pages of some of the best travel books out there. Depending on which country and culture interests you the most, you can choose the book of your liking to add to your intellect. Here are my personal favourites:
- On the Road by Jack Kerouac
- The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux
- Our Man in Havana by Graham Greene
- Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
- Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
WATCH TRAVEL MOVIES
Books are not everyone’s cup of tea, I get it. So for those who prefer a good movie over the pages of a book, here are some interesting titles to add to your watchlist. Each of these movies is directed in different locations so it will be the closest thing to travelling the world if you watch them all (well, at least digitally).
- Into the Wild
- The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
- Midnight in Paris
- Papa Hemingway in Cuba
- Mamma Mia!
SAVE UP AND PLAN
Now that you are equipped with all the knowledge you can get, it is time to save up and create your ultimate bucket list. Nothing feels better than a strong comeback, to make up for all the things you are missing now and cannot materialize. Take advantage of the time you have, and use it as an opportunity to plan and reform.
