Arolithos village is a unique destination in Crete and the perfect place if you want to get a glimpse into the traditional way of life on the island. Located in the hills outside of Heraklion, this charming village is primarily known for its beautiful traditional architecture.
Apart from the small hotel located inside the village, there are no other residents here. The reason is that Arolithos is a “theme” village where visitors can learn more about Cretan culture and how life used to be back in the old days.
If you’re planning a trip to Crete, Arolithos should definitely be on your list of places to visit!

HOW TO GET TO AROLITHOS VILLAGE
The best way to get to Arolithos village is either by taxi or by renting a car from Heraklion. The village is about 12 km outside the city, and the drive takes roughly 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you’ll find ample parking and easy access to the village’s main square.
We rented our car from Monza Rent a Car and we were very happy with our car and their service was excellent!
EXPLORING AROLITHOS VILLAGE
One of the highlights of visiting Arolithos village is simply wandering the streets and admiring the traditional architecture. The village is made up of narrow alleys, stone buildings, and colourful flowers that create a beautiful, picturesque atmosphere. There are also several shops selling local handicrafts and souvenirs, as well as a traditional kafeneio and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a meal or a drink.

Another must-see attraction in Arolithos is the Museum of Rural History and Folk Art. If you want to stay inside Arolithos village, then your options are limited. But don’t worry, there’s a cosy traditional guesthouse that’s the only option available.
