Zakynthos was our first stop on our island-hopping around the Ionian islands. We spent a week exploring the island and enjoying its wonderful beaches. We made friends, we ate all the Greek food our stomachs could take and we swam at some of the best beaches in Zakynthos. It was a memorable vacation and that’s why we believe that Zakynthos is one of the best Ionian islands to visit. Every part of Zakynthos has something to offer; from picturesque villages to mouthwatering food and from warm hospitality to striking beaches. One thing we know for sure is you’ll make unforgettable memories.
The best thing about the Greek islands is their spectacular beaches. The clear azure waters of the Mediterranean sea are incomparable. There are so many things to do and see in Zakynthos and we have written an extensive guide here. With that said, we believe that one of the best things to do in Zakynthos is spending time by the beach. So, we have compiled a list of the best beaches in Zakynthos that you must see. This list covers any type of beach you’re after; whether you’re looking for a secluded spot, a bustling beach where you can party, or a family beach, you’re sure to find it below.

BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS
1. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – GERAKAS
Gerakas beach is a long sandy beach, located at Vasilikos. It is a beautiful beach with shallow waters, perfect for families with small kids. As you descend the stairs, the dramatic backdrop will catch your eye. We loved that part of Gerakas and in fact, we placed our towels closer to the cliff; away from the busy sunbeds. Part of the beach is not accessible in order to protect the turtle nests. Don’t worry, there is more than enough space where you can lay your towel. Be advised that there are no facilities here but you can find a few tavernas right next to the parking lot. Also, there is not much natural shade so bring your own umbrella if you don’t want to rent one.
2. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – BANANA
This is one of the best beaches in Zakynthos if you like watersports. Banana is an awesome beach with plenty of fun water activities to offer. It is perfectly organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as a bar and restaurant. The parking lot is free and it is quite spacious, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a spot. The sand is powdery and soft and you’ll find the crystal clear waters perfect for swimming. We can’t think of a single negative thing to say about this place and we can’t recommend it enough!
3. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – NAVAGIO BEACH
Of course, Navagio is on this list of the best beaches in Zakynthos! Navagio has become a landmark in Zakynthos and it’s undeniably one of the best beaches on Zakynthos island. The milky blue waters are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. As if that wasn’t enough, the dramatic cliffs surrounding the beach will surely take your breath away.
This spectacular beach is named Navagio after a shipwreck washed on its shore; Navagio means Shipwreck in Greek, hence the name.
You can visit Navagio beach with a boat or enjoy the panoramic views from the viewpoint located on the hill at the edge of the cliff. No matter which way you’ll choose, either way, you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views. Don’t forget your camera!

4. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – KERI CAVES
Greek islands are the perfect destination if you want to take a boat trip. Zakynthos offers plenty of opportunities to do that and explore its many secluded beaches and beautiful caves. Most boat tours to Navagio beach include a stop at the Keri Caves as part of the package so you can combine your visit to these unique locations.
Technically the Keri Caves are not considered a beach but its striking emerald waters are excellent for swimming and snorkeling. So we couldn’t help but include it in our list of the best beaches in Zakynthos.
5. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – XIGIA BEACH
This is one of the best beaches in Zakynthos and one of my absolute favorites! It is a pebbly beach, surrounded by cliffs and gin-clear waters. We visited during the sunset and under this soft light, this sensational beach looked even more magical (if that’s even possible). You’ll need to descend a narrow footpath to reach it but the trek is super easy and short.
You’ll find plenty of parking space, however, it is not shaded. Also, we’d highly recommend that you stop for a refreshing drink at the cafe that is located at the top of the cliff and take in the panoramic views.
6. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – KALAMAKI
Kalamaki beach is the ultimate place to be if you’re visiting the island with family or if you’re a couple. It is considered one of the best beaches in Zakynthos for many reasons but perhaps the main one is because here you get your chance to swim side by side with a loggerhead turtle! We weren’t as fortunate to see one but we didn’t mind because we enjoyed everything else that Kalamaki has to offer; the sandy beach, the inviting clear waters, and the gorgeous landscape. You can spend an entire day here soaking up the sun and swimming. Once you’re ready to leave, head over to one of the local tavernas located at the promenade to enjoy a scrumptious meal.
7. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – PORTO ZORO
What makes Porto Zoro one of the best beaches in Zakynthos is its idyllic location. This paradisal beach is surrounded by lush greenery and turquoise water exuding serious tropical vibes. Like most beaches in Zakynthos, this one too has clear waters and it is quite shallow. With that said, there are several rocks dotted in the water which makes it perhaps not suitable for small kids. This is an ideal spot if you’re a couple looking for a quiet beach. If you walk past the main beach, you’ll be able to find a few secluded spots. As far as beaches in Zakynthos go, this one has to be one of our favorites!
8. BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS – LAGANAS
Laganas town is the perfect place in Zakynthos to party; that includes its beach. The vibe in Laganas is lively, attracting mainly youngsters who flock here to have fun. The biggest part of the beach here is organized with umbrellas and sunbeds which belong to the adjacent beach bars.
If loud music and bustling beaches are not your things, then you might wanna skip this one.
BEST BEACHES IN ZAKYNTHOS YOU MUST SEE – FINAL THOUGHTS
Although most vacationers flock to Zakynthos to see the iconic Navagio beach, this wonderful Ionian island packs so much more than that.
During our visit, we spent most of our time visiting the beaches in Zakynthos but we also managed to explore its picturesque villages.
